Wanted Mecenas

With the world in crisis and the euro making Europe unstable, reform is needed. This means that there is less tax money to do everything we are used to. A lot of unusual things are needed.

One of the sectors that get hit hard is the cultural industry. The NY Times writes a nice story about it. Americans know that Europeans see culture as a need, whereas Americans see it as a convenience.

Has it always been like this? Is it normal that “artists” get money from state and can do whatever they like to do? I Don’ t think so. In the old days artists, good ones, or maybe good networking artists, had a mecenas. A wealthy person that would support his art. Probably sometimes with a say in whatwas being produced.

It is a very interesting time we are living in. One that requires new solutions, or maybe even very old solutions. The only constant is change.
